The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has declared a state of readiness for war in response to a massive barrage of rockets from the Gaza Strip and the infiltration of Hamas terrorists into Israeli territory. This development occurred on Saturday morning, with rockets hitting southern and central Israel, including Jerusalem. The IDF cited the need for residents in the affected areas to remain close to protected areas and secure spaces, highlighting the severity of the situation.
Following the surprise attack by Hamas, the IDF swiftly initiated retaliatory airstrikes in the Gaza Strip. These strikes were launched approximately two hours after the initial rocket attacks. Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi held an assessment and approved plans of action to address the escalating conflict. The IDF emphasized that Hamas, as the orchestrator of the attack, would bear the responsibility for the unfolding events.
As a result of the rocket barrage, casualties were reported, including a tragic incident where a rocket directly hit a building in the Gederot Regional Council, claiming the life of a woman in her 60s. Medical teams from Magen David Adom treated a total of 16 individuals across the country, with varying degrees of injuries. Hospitals, such as Asaf Harofeh, received and treated patients, including those in serious condition. In response to the escalating conflict, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant approved a widescale call-up of reservists to bolster the IDF's capabilities.
